2005 – 2006 DOVER YOUTH WRESTLING PROGRAM
Coaching philosophy of
the Dover youth wrestling program is as follows:
¨
To teach the fundamentals of wrestling
¨To
provide a sport for children of any size, weight and ability to compete
against other children of the same size, weight and ability
¨To
provide a physical activity that increases the child's coordination,
flexibility, strength, and overall conditioning
¨To
promote sportsmanship and self-discipline while increasing self-confidence
¨To
have FUN
Group selection for practices:
The club will notify you
in the next couple days with your wrestler’s assigned group and practice times.
If you have not been contacted within the next 7 days call
Mark Becker.
Your wrestler will be
placed in a group based on experience, age and the need to keep practice
sessions balanced based on the size of the wrestling room. Our mission is to
provide a program that challenges the kids and allows them to develop skill and
ability.
Group 2
will be for the wrestler with zero to three years experience and will focus on
repetitive drilling of basic moves and principles. The practices will be
less intense. If your wrestler is doing very well, he will be evaluated and
moved into a group that is more challenging.
Group 3 and 4
will be for the wrestler with three plus year’s experience. Exceptions will be
made based on ability. The advanced groups will drill much harder and
practices will be more intense. If your wrestler is having difficulty
keeping up or paying attention, he will be moved into a less intensive group.
The advanced groups will also condition much harder at the beginning of
practice. The wrestler participating in group 4 will be expected to
arrive on time and take full advantage of the practice and conditioning.
Showing up late and disrupting the practice will not be tolerated.
Rules and regulations for practice:
1.
Dress for practice
will be sweatshirt or tee shirt and shorts or sweat pants. A singlet is
optional but not required for practice. No buttons, snaps, zippers or baggy
fitting attire should be worn during practice. Kids should come to practice
with clean clothes and clean face and hands. A clean pair of sneakers or
wrestling shoes must be worn on the mat. We will not allow a wrestler on the
mats with muddy or wet shoes. No jewelry will be worn during practice.
Fingernails must be kept short. Headgear is recommended but not mandatory. If a
wrestler has braces, we recommend a mouthpiece to prevent cutting gums and lips.
2.
We strongly recommend that the wrestler take a shower after every
practice.
3.
Wrestlers will be disciplined if they are out of control and
disrupting the practice. The following disciplinary measures will be followed:
¨First
Violation -- Verbal warning.
¨Second
Violation -- Wrestler will be
asked to sit out or do push-ups at the side of the mat for a period
¨Third
Violation -- Meeting with
parent and coach. If behavior does not change, the wrestler may be
ineligible for Saturday league matches and moved to a different practice
group.
4.
The wrestler must maintain their schoolwork during the wrestling season.
We ask that parents please let the coaches know if there is a drop in grades
during the season.
5.
Parents, PLEASE pick up your child promptly after practice.
6. If there is no school
or school is dismissed practice is canceled for that day.
Cost associated with operating the Dover

required by the School District to carry liability insurance

the Eagle Wresting Club are all volunteers and are not paid for their time
and devotion to the program and the children.

free to discuss the matter with a coach. Help to make decisions concerning the
program by attending the Booster Club meetings held on the 1st
